Environmental Data Wiping

Customers have trusted us since 2003 for our integrity, our innovative problem solving, and this combined with our comprehensive reporting and Data Centre support services make us the right choice for all your Environmental requirements.

We know you have many choices when selecting an environmental and asset recovery partner. There’s really more to it than just box ticking. Our customers choose us for the overall value we provide. Our business value gives you more than environmental leadership it provides you with a true “Business Partner” which is why our blue chip high profile customers have continued to do business with us for many years.

Over the last few years, the rise of legal requirements surrounding data security and environmental concerns has placed increasing pressure on the importance of industry standards and certifications. If you’re not planning to select vendors who can guarantee risk mitigation associated with IT asset management and disposition, you might be headed towards a data security nightmare.

Data erasure (also called data clearing or data wiping) is a software-based method of overwriting the data that completely destroys all electronic data residing on a hard disk drive or other digital media.

We provide multiple solutions for data centre sanitization. We can directly disassemble RAID configurations to erase individual drives. If you have loose drives or want to pull them for wiping, our appliance can handle any type of drive interface and make the job fast and efficient.

Data erasure is a fraction of the cost of physically destroying hard drives – the method historically used. Not only is the hard cost per drive lower, you also achieve labour savings since disks don't need to be transferred to the location of physical destruction. With WipeDrive the process is fast, efficient, and effective.

Environmentally and Socially Conscious

One of the reasons companies are moving away from physically destroying hard drives is the environmental impact. Computer and IT hardware contains toxic metals that, when placed in landfills, can leach into the ground water. By wiping drives, you are still recycling but not trashing them. This not only helps the environment but allows you the confidence that your disks are finding a second life.

Software-based overwriting uses a software application to write a stream of zeros, ones or meaningless pseudorandom data onto all sectors of a hard disk drive. There are key differentiators between data erasure and other overwriting methods, which can leave data intact and raise the risk of data breach, identity theft or failure to achieve regulatory compliance. Many data eradication programs also provide multiple overwrites so that they support recognized government and industry standards, though a single-pass overwrite is widely considered to be sufficient for modern hard disk drives TWS will always use at least 3 passes. Good software should provide verification of data removal, which is necessary for meeting certain standards. Data erasure software should provide the user with a validation certificate indicating that the overwriting procedure was completed properly. Data erasure software should also comply with requirements to erase hidden areas, provide a defects log list and list bad sectors that could not be overwritten.
